Can Giant Ball Corp. to Build a New Plant in Goodyear, Arizona Ball Corp. said it will build a new beverage packaging plant in Goodyear while shuttering three beverage packaging plants elsewhere in the U.S. The Broomfield, Colorado-based can giant will open a new facility in Goodyear sometime in the second quarter of 2018 and close plants in Birmingham, Alabama, Chatsworth, Califor- nia, and Longview, Texas, in 2018. Company Santa Ana-based aerospace manufacturer Du- commun Inc. closed its $60 million cash buy of LS Holdings Company LLC, the company said. LS is the parent of Lightning Diversion Systems, a Huntington Beach manufacturer of lightning protection systems for the aero- space and defense sectors. The company recently relocated its head- quarters from Los Angeles to Santa Ana. Ducommun, established in 1849, is Cali- fornia’s oldest continuously running company and the oldest manufacturer in L.A. It has worked on Boeing 737s since their inception in the 1960s. Northrop Acquisition Expands Southern California Footprint Northrop Grumman Corp. will acquire Or- bital ATK Inc. in a deal valued at $9.2 bil- lion. With the transaction the Falls Church, Va. aerospace and defense contractor will add an additional San Fernando Valley region location to its portfolio. Orbital ATK, in Dulles, Va., has a facil- ity in Northridge, CA. for developing ad- vanced anti-radiation guided missiles used on the U.S. Navy’s Hornet, Super Hornet and Growler aircraft and the Italian Air Force’s Tornado aircraft. The Valley location also has production lines to produce the AAR-47 Missile Warn- ing System, designed to protect helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft from surface-to-air threats; and Common Munitions BIT Reprogram- ming Equipment used with weapon systems to upload and download flight software. Northrop has its Navigation Systems divi- sion headquartered in Woodland Hills, CA. to develop and manufacture navigation and po- sitioning systems for aircraft, satellites, missiles and ships.
